About Max Menard
The Youngsville Lawyer
A Well-Rounded Career
After graduation from St. Thomas More Catholic High School, Max went on to earn a degree in Business Administration with a minor in Geology at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, graduating Magna cum laude in 1990. He then attended Louisiana State University Law School, graduating in the top 10% of his class.
After college, Max clerked for three different judges in the Louisiana Third Circuit Court of Appeals earning the Distinguished Service Award from that court prior to his departure in 1996.
Max then worked with Lafayette firms Oats & Hudson, Leonard & Leonard, and Taulbee & Associates, representing all types of insurance companies prior to opening his own firm. These cases included flood, home, business, farming, and automobile insurance.
Interestingly, Max’s first client was his dad’s oil and gas service company, representing them in a contractual dispute; Max took the case to court and won. That success set the tone for the future because Max personally takes all his cases to court and has been hired by other firms to do the same for them.
Max has tried both judge and jury trials throughout Louisiana in both state and federal courts and has filed briefs and argued cases in appellate courts and Louisiana’s supreme court. Max additionally has handled cases in Texas and Florida.
Having represented both insurance defense cases and personal injury cases, Max embodies the goal a mentor once shared with him: “A well rounded lawyer must have experience on both sides.”
Max has successfully handled major cases against the state of Louisiana and in spite of that adversarial position, Max earned a reputation as someone who is fair and does the right thing. In fact, when Governor John Bel Edwards learned about Max’s cases, he invited Max to serve on a Legal Task Force in Baton Rouge.
As one of those clients explains, “When my case was over, the jury did a very rare thing. They met me in the hallway to give both me and Max a hug. That alone says a lot about an attorney’s character.”
Today Max continues to focus on general practice and personal injury cases with clients who primarily come to him via word-of-mouth. And, as one of Max’s neighbors says, “Why would you settle for less when you can get the Max!”
